Pati discovered her grandmother’s quilts as a child. She
would ask Gay about Grandma Helyn. It was the quilt Helyn made for Gay before
she died, a Grandmother’s Flower Garden, that inspires Pati‘s quilting.
Pati sewed her own clothes most of
her life. She began designing clothing and costumes in College. She earned her BS of Home Economics in 1977 from Otterbein
College .
When Gay “retired”, Pati took the reins at the shop. Pati had been teaching quilting since the mid 1980’s. She
was already teaching the technique she originated for the Grandmother’s Flower Garden which was faster than the English
Paper Piecing Method. In May 1996 this became her product called Quilt Patis™. She followed with a line of patterns that use her Quilt Patis™ called “Tech~Spec”©™.
Pati’s “Weekend Charm Vest” was published in the last Quilting USA
before it became Quilting International. She was the guest on Simply Quilts (#509)
with the Quilt Patis™ and Double Bloom© variation.
Pati and Gay travel anywhere to teach at quilt guilds and shows. June
2005 Pati presented her class called “Be A TWIT*” at the NQA Quilt Show in Columbus, Ohio. May 2006 they traveled in France where they taught at quilt guilds in Avignon and St. Cyprien. They lived
with a wonderful quilter’s family for a week in France.
